Applegreen offers fuels that are in accordance with best international practice and conform to Irish specifications. Fuel technology is constantly evolving, driven by environmental issues and the search to provide lower- cost alternatives to fossil-based fuels. Applegreen offers a range of standard fuels and emission treatments, and will add emerging leading-edge fuels as and when demand merits their inclusion on the forecourt.
Our fuel just got greener
The last number of years have seen the broad roll-out of E5 Petrol and, to a lesser extent, B5 Biodiesel. Both of these fuels are aimed at providing greener options for drivers of existing standard vehicles.
-

All of our petrol is E5, with a mix of 5% ethanol to 95% petrol. The use of E5 in place of standard petrol, decreases carbon emissions by 3.4%, and the product can be used in all current petrol engines and doesn’t affect the engine warranty.
-

All of our diesel contains a mix of 5% FAME (Fatty Acid Methyl Ester) to 95% standard diesel. This B5 blend of standard fuel and biomass helps reduce carbon emissions and is suitable for use in all diesel engines.

Low fuel prices, always
We check the price of fuel in each of our Applegreen stations local area every day. We then set our pump prices to ensure that we are always at least as low as the lowest competing site in this area.
Like any business we have to take into account the cost of our fuel when setting our prices. We track the international price of refined oil products on a daily basis. These prices are quoted by brokers like Platts in US $ per tonne. An industry standard tonnes-to-litres conversion factor is used to convert to litres and the current €/US $ rate of exchange is applied to arrive at cost per litre. If the price is CIF it includes carriage insurance and freight and is effectively a price landed at a post in Ireland.
In addition a cost for Port duties and storing it in the importing terminal together with transport to the service station and a retail margin make up the balance of the fuel cost excluding taxes and duties.
